Morgan Gilreath squared off in a debate PRO/CON on the January 29th
Constitutional Amendment on Property Taxes known better as Question
One.
Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the evening came at the end
when the results of the Straw Poll were announced. There were 32
individuals who said they were voting YES, there were 39
individuals who said they were voting NO...and even after hearing
both sides of the issue and hearing the answers to countless
questions from the audience, 29 individuals said they were still
UNDECIDED.
That illustrates just how tough this issue is to forcast. I would
also point out that since Volusia Tax Reform was one of the
sponsors of the event, there may have been a disportionate number
of people who said NO...however, many prominent members of
VTR...including former Mayor Richard Kane disagree with VTR and
advocate voting YES.
It is clear that the electorate is split. Some who will benefit
personally...are seeing past their own situation and speaking about
the fact that they dont think it fixes the problem. Others think it
is a step in the right direction.
